I ordered carpet from EMPIRE TODAY in Staten Island with their Salesman Tony (worst salesman ever!) and got the old bait-and-switch!!! I chose a high quality carpet and when it arrived it was low grade garbage!

No wonder EMPIRE doesn't let you have swatches when you make your purchase! They also insist on full payment PRIOR to installation. Luckily, I caught it early and cancelled my order. Even the installers said the carpet was cheap and not worth the amount I was paying.

Tony was useless when I called him. He complained that he was too busy to come back to my home to attend to the problem and hung up on me twice.

Today 9/24/15 the installers from empire came out again, once again the work could not be completed. My journey started with empire in July still three visits later still no flooring.

This is absolutely the worst company I have ever had the chance to work or not work with. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

I agree with you. I had three rooms of flooring (tiles) installed by Empire.

The grout color does not look like the color that I picked nor the same as what is shown on their website. It's a nightmare trying to get a call back from Customer Service.

What a slip shod company. They should not be in business.

They told me that the contractor was let go after this incident. I allowed them to send a company employee.

She gave me a good price so I am now waiting for installation. Will follw up when blinds are installed.

I scheduled an appointment for a Monday for measuring for blinds and window treatments. They called on the morning of the appointment and cancelled for no reason and said they would come the following day.

The next day they called right before they were scheduled to arrive and said their car broke down. They scheduled for the following day. The next day again they called at the appointed time and they said they got lost and wanted to schedule for the following day. I cancelled!

Do they expect anyone to believe this BS?!!

Who would order anything from such unreliable people! STAY AWAY!

Approximately 3 years ago we had carpet installed by empire carpet. Their salesman recommended thie particular carpet for a high traffic area.

It did not hold up...the carpet looks 2 to 3 times as old as it is. We called empire and for the past few weeks they have been sending people to our house and basically telling us it is normal wear and tear. We were told that there was a warrantee but empire does not stand behind it. Others that have looked at it claim that if they used a better padding it may have helped (of course we went with their recommended padding as well).

Although we have used empire in the past and recommended them to several others we are done with them as we feel cheated not only by thier recommendation but also by their customer service.

AWFUL, AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!!!!

i was given the run-around for a full week trying to get custom window blinds.

first, i scheduled an appt. the empire employee called me 20 mins before the appt window closed to let me know that he was having "car trouble" and would need to reschedule. i rescheduled for 3 days later...no show. no call. I called HIM and he told me that he was somewhere else and wouldn't be able to get to me then rudely told me to call the 1800#. so i did. i actually gave them another chance...sorry i did that.

i spoke to a cust service rep who told me on the phone that someone would be at my home betwn 2-4p the following business day. i got a confirmation email saying that my appt was actually btwn 10-12p. i had JUST hung up the phone with her. how can you mess that up?

wait....gets better. the appt day comes...NO ONE SHOWS UP! i was told by cust service that "they didn't know why" bc it was in the system. and blamed the local office. the following day, i called to find out what happened...the customer service rep apologized and got to me earlier than me expected window. i liked him and even put a deposit down on the blinds. he told me that someone would be at my house the next day to re-measure and place the order.

Next day - no one showed. no call. i actually had two more no-shows, reschedulings etc. after that before i finally threw in the towel. i asked for my money back and proceeded to cancel my order. it was THEN that my doorbell rang. It was the empire employee there to re-measure my window.

can't make this stuff up, folks.

DO NOT USE EMPIRE!!!!!!! there are plenty of other more reputable, professional and reliable companies. I will be using one of them.

We scheduled an appointment for the much advertised "free in-home estimate" by Empire Carpet and were given an appt the very next day for between 4 and 6pm. Empire Carpet was supposed to call us just before arriving.

Well, they never showed...and they never called either. My wife was pissed she wasted the time waiting around for them. When we called Empire Carpet again to inquire what happened, they promised to investigate and call us back. Guess what...they never did.

Somehow I am not surprised. All they wanted to do was book another appt, which we had no confidence would ever happen.

This is a very poorly run operation. Heads up.

I signed up to selll for Empire Today in Feb 2010. I had a short training course and was "in the field" selling in a couple weeks. Support of the independent contractors selling for them is pitiful.

They assign many leads in NYC. If you work in the City they may promise to pay parking expense but do it only spottily and grudgingly. I submitted 3 months of expenses where I didn't get paid because I didn't supply all the info they wanted. They didn't inform me of the problem and neverf returned the incorrect expense claims so I could resubmit.

I worked very hard, sold a lot of carpet and floors, got paid pitifully little. Eventually (Jan 2011) they deactivated my ID, so I was fired, although I was an "independent agent". I returned the samples and am owed money for them. Still waiting.

Given the small size of apartments in NYC you really cannot make the company goals working there. They fire virtually everyone who works in NYC, particularly Manhattan. I was frequently promised leads in other areas (So I could make the goals and keep the job) but these promises were not kept.

My advice, avoid the headache and stay away from these guys.

I had two appointments with Empire Today flooring and they never showed. The first time he claimed to be lost.

I called at 9:30 the second time to find out when in the 9-11 range they may show and eventually found out he wasn't coming until 12. H eapparently didn't plan on calling me and wasn't sure he'd make it by then. Wasted a morning and time off work so I'm moving on to another company.

I guess they're so cheap to make up for the lack of customer service. Don't waste your time with these guys...

On Empire Carpet's website, they claim to have a "Low Price Guarantee" where they guarantee they will "beat" a competitor's written estimate on a similar product and the estimate cannot be for a clearance items and a few other restrictions which don't apply to my situation.

I had the Empire guy at my house a few days ago and had a written quote dated that same day from a big box store.

Empire's estimate was MORE THAN DOUBLE their competitor (for Empire's cheapest carpet). When we showed the estimate to the Empire guy, he called his "boss" and found out the lowest price he could get for us and it was almost double. I asked why Empire claims to have a low price guarantee stated on the website and his only response was that he is not allowed to go lower than what his boss tells him.

The written estimate met all of the requirements as detailed on their website but they do not honor their low price guarantee.

But after reading the comments about the quality of Empire's carpets, I am glad we decided to go with one of their competitors.

I had a tub liner and walls put up in my tenants bathroom. Since I had tenents living there and liners take 1 days to install and 24 hrs to wait, it was a perfect solution to update an older bathroom without telling my tenants to move out.

They came, they installed, they destroyed!

THey installed Dec of 2008, it looked so pretty I was really happy. The following week water was coming down through the ceiling below that bathroom where it has never done that before. I ripped my ceiling down since I was about to redo that bathroom anyway. I'm clueless on plumbing so all i saw was water coming down, called empire. They came, the guy blamed my tenants stating they took a shower before the 24 hrs and the caulk was no good on teh new drain. OK fine whatever they caulked it again and they decided to caulk it from the floor below also and not only did the guy caulk it but he put 3 inches of caulk on? I said whats that for he said to make sure nothing gets through just to be safe. Boy i'm an ***!!

So i go ahead and have the bathroom which is right below the tenants bathroom redone. I put up special waterproof sheetrock and about a year later it was leaking a little from where the seems were. So i thought i went up there and caulked around the edges thinking it was that. Finally I couldnt take it any more cause it got worse and worse and I ripped down my brand new ceiling since the taping from the sheet rock was coming down at this point. It seemed that the sheetrock was holding tons of water in and it all came down. Whenever they took a shower it woudl poor into my new bathroom. I thought ok maybe my pipes have a leak etc. I never once blamed empire. Then the plumber came all I heard was oh *** and then he said he didnt want to touch it. He sai without going in the tenants apartment, you had a liner put up there didnt you. how did he know? he said he can see it clearly, its white. He then showed me the huge hole in my cast iron tube! he said the liner they made didnt fit your tube so instead of telling me, they cut the train of the tub to fit the liner. When you cut a castiron tub a chunk came out and then all this 3 inches of caulk was used to try and hold the water in. I call empire to explain since they covered it up!!! They said we will send someone out there for a fee. a fee? he said im out of my warantty, i said i understand that but this should not be part of that since this was pure negligence and a cover up! Of course i didnt notice until 2 years later, 3 inches of caulk held for the perfect amount of time past your warantty. So now I had estimates to replace the tub, and i thought ok maybe $1000. Well it seems its about 7000!!! why? well its not as easy to just take out an old cast iron tub and make a new one it in its place. THey said i need a new tub surrounding cause when teh tub comes out it will destroy the bottem part and wont match up when it ges back in and the same for my tiled floors, there may be a gap now. So this is a nightmare and basically Empire does nto return calls and when you call them to tell them they didnt return the call they put you on hold for 30 minutes, hoping you will hang up. Then they say its not our problem. So I consulted a lawyer and it seems it is their problem, but what a waste of time for me! I have to file, go to court and until them, i have to bath in my bathroomk with my tenants dirty bathwater! Be warned, if anythign goes wrong when empire installs any of their products, they will run and hide and not call you back!!!!

Tonight, February 7, 2011, I sat in the same dining room area as in November, again to be given five quotes for a two bedroom job. Firstly, your salesperson brought the highest price-point board to the apartment and nothing else. After measuring the two rooms, he quickly concluded that the 304 sq. ft. would cost $3200.00 for laminate flooring. That was almost the total approximate cost of the job above. When I expressed my displeasure to him, he stated that he was discussing the best product and why would I want something cheaper (like to product I had purchased in November)? As if that insult was enough, he proceeded to state that people are insulted when he brings the product I had on my floor to their consulting appointment. I told him that I did not have a lot of faith in his quotes and that the experience was why we called a regional manager prior to his visit. After that statement, he quoted us $1400.00 for both rooms using the American Way product. I agreed that I could live with that price but needed to see the colors because I wanted a darker color in the bedrooms compared to what I have currently in the other rooms. He stated that American Way did not come in very dark colors and that only high-gloss came in dark colors but the price-point was just like the $3200.00 quote. When he left o get the other board, my husband and I noticed on his price-point paper that high-gloss was actually the least expensive. Upon his return, my husband pointed out that the high-gloss product on his price-point sheet was in fact the least expensive on the sheet. Annoyed that we had looked at the paper, he said he miscalculated the $1400.00 price and it was really $2800.00. Then he said we would get a $200.00 discount for being a return customer, so in fact we would have to pay $2600.00. When I said to my husband, "Let's just call the regional manager," the salesperson offered to call his manager to determine if we could get a deal. After speaking to the manager (and never offering that he quoted us a price of $1400.00), the salesperson said that the manger would offer us "This price." At that time, he did not say a price, but instead placed $1800 on the calculator and turned it toward us resembling a bad rendition of a stereotypical used car salesperson. I pointed out that within 30 minutes he had indeed offered five different prices for two bedrooms and rehashed the experience with him. He started to pretend to nod and finally said, "So you're not interested?" I told him that I take spending my money very seriously and that he should know that I planned to call the national office. He then stood-up, laughed, and started walking to the door. When my husband and I told him that nothing was funny, he stopped and said I'm laughing because you didn't have to restate everything that happened. He further stated, "I only offered you two prices because the mistake doesn't count. I am not perfect and you are not perfect. If you had signed the paper, oh well. You didn't sign it and so it doesn't count." I then stated that it counts to me because I am a customer and when you tell me a price I agree to, I expect you to stick to it. I also told him that I would be calling the national office again. He turned to the door and said, "You can call who you want to call. You can call national, regional or Obama, "and walked out of the door.

Needless to say, I am highly insulted by this unprofessional salesperson sent to my home by your company! I wonder what kind of recruiting you do and what type of training is offered to your salespeople. Although I had a bad first experience, I gave your company the benefit of the doubt because your product looks good in my home. I never imagined that the second experience would top the second experience in a bad way. I am compelled to ask the following questions:

"¢Why have I had two consecutive similar experiences that appear to be of a swindling nature?

"¢Why did your salesman appear to be so comfortable with disrespecting me and my husband?

"¢What type of training do your salespeople receive that they believe a calculation error (if indeed it was a miscalculation) should be ignored by all

"¢Is the service offered, in some areas, a different caliber compared to others (I find it hard to believe that you provide this service in more affluent areas)?

"¢Is your corporate office condoning the behaviors of the salespeople?

"¢Is this an issue for my local Congressman? How many other customers in this area are being taken advantaged of by Empire salespeople?

Horrible service horrible installation. they installed a tub liner that fit incorrectly causing the liner to crack.

They came to my home to reinstall a liner and ordered the same incorrect size. when the contractor tried to install it he told me he is unable to because the liner does not fit. I had already informed their corporate office that the liner did not fit but they chose to order the wrong size again. The Empire contractor said he would not install it and decided that he should clean my old tub instead while they order a new liner.

He then discovered that the tub had been cracked at the drain by the Empire contractor that installed the first tub. They told me that they would have to replace the entire bathtub and it would take 2 weeks. It has been over a month. I called them last week and they made an appointment to come to my home this past Saturday.

I made arrangements to have my children out of the house for the entire day. I called in the morning and was told that they were "loading up the truck". 1 hour later Mark Jeffers leaves me a message saying they will not be coming because the materials have not arrived.

They have not returned my phone calls. Do not do business with Empire they are the most unprofessional people I have ever come accross.

Empire Carpet is the worst!!!!. I set up an appointment for a Monday and they said they couldn't make it and rescheduled of Wednesday.

Wednesday came and they never called and never showed. I called customer service and the person who was supposed to visit my house lied and said he called my home and my voice mail was full. When I got home I had to messages on my machine, neither from him. He also said he called th secondary # (my Cell) and left a message, another lie I had no message.

All they kept trying to do was give me $50 off of my purchase and reschedule AGAIN. I told them thanks but no thanks I'll take my business to someone who really wants it.

I personally think what they are doing is keep putting people off so it will be too late for them (customer) to take advantage of the deal they have going on. People if you want carpet don't call Empire, you'll never get it.

I just bought a house and I wanted to get quotes from 3 different places before I made a decision. The first 2 places were both local "mom and pop" type carpet stores. One was $3500, which seemed too high, and the second one told me $2350. I decided to get the last quote from Empire, since they always say "60% off" and that they match any price.

The whole experience was a disaster. They said they'd be there between 11am and 1pm, and no-show by 1:30---I was annoyed. Called the 800# and they said the Sales Rep came at 11:00am and no one let them in. Hello??? How about calling the 2 contact numbers that I provided? So that was a waste of 3 hours waiting for nothing. I rescheduled to have them come back at 6pm.

The sales rep had 3 samples, which he referred to as good, better and best. Well, even his best one was still a lousy quality. It was worse than the cheapest stuff at the local place! Also, he would not give a price "per square yard" which is how carpet is priced and measured everywhere else. I kept pressing for it, and he would only say "Empire believes in giving one price for the whole job. This includes tack strips, padding, labor, tax, etc. and the price won't change." Well, that's great, but why can't you break it down and tell me the price of each individual part of the job? Anyway...in the end, he quoted $4500 for the job, and that wasn't even the nicest carpet. SO OVERPRICED!! That's almost twice as much as the place I ended up using. Don't use them! He probably didn't know I already had other quotes, he kept saying how Empire was SO much lower priced than everywhere else. You could also tell just by touching that the carpet was poor quality. Not enough color choices either. No way!

Shows how advertising gets in ones head. The push their BBB A rating a little too much, I wonder how they got it.

The law states that carpet must now be priced by the square foot.

You are not a very well educated consumer.
