I called Empire carpet, salesman came out, took measurements, and told me that I could pay in one lump sum or finance half and pay half. Well Dumb me gave a deposit of $1093.00 only to be denied the financing (and this was after I was told that the money would not be charged from my account until after the financing went through).

Well the money was taken from my account the very next morning and I am still trying to get my money back.

I will give it one more week and then I will file a small claims case. I am tired of trying to get my money back.

SOUNDS LIKE dreambml works for EMPIRE!!!!!!

#55985

I had National Floors Direct come out as well as Empire. My main point in commenting on this is that they are supposed to call and get the financing approved right then and there.

You cannot depend on someone who has nothing to do with the credit check/approval telling you it is fine. Number 2 point is that you have so many days to cancel, so if you did cancel the next day, you should have received a refund for what you were charged.

Anyway, we used Empire, had no problems, carpet and floors were done in a total of 8 hours, we paid cash, and it was $700 less than NFD. I guess it just really depends on your salesperson and then the workers.

#49379

Why in the world would you give them a dime before you were approved. Sounds like a no brainer to me..

#48797

thanks for warning me about empire

I plan on going else where....

Maybe I should've read the fine print. They told me no payments for a year.

I figured I would accrue interest and that was okay. What I didn't get was the credit limit. My carpet was $3500 with no payments. When my first bill arrived I had $700 dollars of interest charged.

That was okay. But, my credit limit was only $3500 and now my account is $700 over limit. And, you guessed it. A $39 fee for being over limit, every month until I got caught up.

I was very upset. It took me a very long time to get it under my limit. And of course they wouldn't agree to raise my credit limit.

I felt completely duped and taken advantage of. I will never buy from Empire carpet again, nor will I use GE financial services.

you as the consumer is responsible for any contract that you sign regardless of what was verbably said

#68850

Same thing happened to me, and I DID read the fine print. My contract said 0% interest free for one year.

Nowhere was it mentioned that the offer was conditional upon full payment being made within the year. Nor the penalty - as stated in the original thread.

I am in NYC and THIS IS IN VIOLATION OF RULE 5-06 of NYC Dept of Consumer Affairs rules. I have filed a complaint with NYDCA and it is currently being acted upon.

I contact Empire Carpet for an in-home estimate. The salesman, Sarkis, told me they could get me approved, no problem. He did not show me how he got the ridiculously high estimate, just the total amount. He also told me how bad my place looked.

Someone from Empire called me on the day I was to cancel the contract and told me that I had been approved and scheduled an installation.

When the installer came out, NOT FROM EMPIRE, he wanted cash! I told him I had been approved for financing. I called my salesman who told me, "yes I had been approved and he would call the manager." Then some guy from finance called me and said I had not been approved and this has never happened before. Right!

I'm SO GLAD they did not install anything for me. The workman started touching my valuable items to move them without my authorization and the foreman said he couldn't do the whole floor - I would have to paint some of it. What? That would have looked horrible.

I went with Empire because I live on a 2nd floor condo and wanted to avoid tearing out my tub/shower. After some back and forth on the price, we settled in at a price that seemed doable.

The salesman, Tom, sets up the installation and assures me it will be done in one day as my condo requires water be turned off to my whole building. Well the guy shows up 4 hrs. late and gets about one-third of the way done. The 2nd day he shows up at 8:00 PM, works until midnight and still doesn't finish.

He finally "completes" the job about 1 week later. Tom never returned a single one of my phone calls. The shower curtain rod came loose the first time I draped a towel over it and the caulking looked like it was done by an 8 yr. old.

Two *** came to fix the rod weeks later and it still didn't hold. After that came some guy who didn't speak a word of English but has apparently managed to secure the rod. All the while one Empire person after another "handles" my complaints. I finally decide to stick with talking to a guy named Scott who eventually offers to completely redo the job.

I say 'No' as I have no confidence in them and request a partial refund.

Well, to end a long story, Scott hasn't produced squat and, 2 months later, all I have to show for this nightmare is a *** shower and bathtub. Empire Today, hands down, is the worst company I have ever dealt with!!!!

I called in 7/08 to have three rooms of carpet stretched snd was quoted 175.00. I declined the order due to it was too much.Jeff Dunn told me that no matter whenever I call back the price will be 75.00 each room.

Good I thought. I called back 11/08 to have one room stretched and now he gives me the business about he never quoted me 75.00 per room that it's 125.00 per room service charge (which was never mention) is 80.00 and he basically told me that I was lying about whathe said in July. He was very rude and steadfast on his lie. I have had carpet place in my entire home which I had to put up with non-Americans (speak no english) installing and then I have to put up with a person like Jeff Dunn to try to maintain the care of my carpet.

I will no longer shop at this esrablishment with the low quality band carpet.

I rather spend top dollar and get top service from their agents. Jeff Dunn whom is trying to win some type of spirit award with his company is on the battle field and we are the enemies.

As a former employee of Empire Today, I can attest to the low quality and high price you pay for unskilled labor installations. Think twice before purchasing, buyers beware!!!!!

You are dealing with independent contractors who have signed agreements that in fact keep empire from ever being sued if your job goes terrible wrong. Many of the installers have very shady backgrounds, I would only want one of the many crews in my home the rest are in and out for the quick installation and the quick buck.

Shop around and you will get twice the quality for the money. Don't settle for the first price the sales person quotes you, they can take 60% off the price they give you and still make money. Don't pay $40 YARD FOR PRODUCT THEY PAY $6 A YARD FOR. Beware of phony calls to their supervisor to get you a better deal. Buy if you are lead to do so, but don't let them pressure you in any decision, you will wish you had shopped around.

I had Empire install ceramic tile on my kitchen and bath floors in Sept of 2007. Today is oct23 2008.

At this minute the installers are in my bath for the 3rd installation. They would not be there except for the fact they refused to refund my money. The first time the installer did not reset the toilet properly. Water was extensive .Since the water was going under my house I didn`t know until I smelled a horrible order.

Mold and mildew was rampant. They refunded my plumber bill. Second time after a couple of weeks the grout started pulling away from the tile. I tried to call the corporate office when I got in touch they would not let me speak to anyone there instead rerouted me back to the local store.I didn`t mention that they ordered the wrong tile twice.

and forgot to order once. I should have searched the Internet before instead of after the fact.

Will never make same mistake again. Buyer beware!!!!!!!

Thank God I didn't get past the salesmen. He was a weasel!

He told me that the carpet I wanted was over $5 a square foot. I checked around and found the same exact carpet for $3.89 a square foot. When I confronted the salesman he argued with me. I told him to come pick up his samples and two weeks later he hasn't taken his junk carpet off of my front porch.

In a couple of days my dog will be using it as a bed.

I purchased carpet from Empire today, they installed the wrong color but would not replace it for the right color. They said I had to purchase a new roll of carpet at there price, which I already purchase carpet for over $5,000.

They would not make up for there salesman wrong doings. It was all the consumers problem. They hurt the small people in this world, that does not much money to replace anything. If they were a stand up company for their product, they should go out of their way to help with the mistakes they made.

Well all the complains they should be out of business. Do not purchase anything from this company.

So sad, I'm sure the carpet you got was the color you choosed and after seeing it on your floor you decided that was not what you wanted. I'm sure Empire did their best to investigate your order. Empire is the largest flooring best with lots of advertisement and have no room for this kind of false complaints.

Today was the second time that I had a scheduled appointment with Empire Today AND the second time that I was stood up without so much as a courtesy call.

We're building a home so we are in need of flooring for the entire house. This would have been a huge sale for Empire Today. I'm pleased to say that it WILL NOT be a sale for them and that their competitor will reap the benefits of Empire's lack of courtesy and poor, poor customer service.

When I made the appointment I told the agent that this was new construction and therefore my home phone number is not at the location. I gave them two cell-phone numbers to use instead. I also asked that the salesman call us on one of the cell #'s 30 minutes prior to arriving.

I called Empire Today as instructed at the beginning of the two-hour time frame on the day of the appointment to determine when the salesman would arrive. I then drove out to our building site to meet him. Approximately 1/2 way into the appointment time, he called my home (again NOT where we needed him to call) and told my daughter that he was on his way. 45 minutes later he hadn't arrived so I called him on his cell (got the number from my daughter on our home's caller ID). The salesman had the gall to tell me that he needed better directions so he turned around and went home. He then asked when a better time to reschedule would be. Since this was a second chance for this so-called business, I informed him that there wasn't a better time and hung up.

When I called the 800# for Empire Today to tell them what happened. I was told that they would make the report and that we would hear from the sales manager within 3 business days. Yeah, right! NOT!!!!!!!!!!

I want nothing to do with a company that stands up their customers without so much as a call.

I beg you not to let them waste your time as they obviously make a habit of wasting peoples time.

THey put the wrong color wood instead of matching it to the existing wood that they put in last year. THey messed up the corners.

They split black oily stuff on our couches. Left the house a mess. will never do business with them again. They leave people at the house that dont understand english.

My house is a horrible mess and they will call in three days so they say. when it came to selling they hurried us and send people the next day and now that we are screwed with a ugly floor they will take their time to call us back.

what good business ethics. what is wrong with America

I am confused. When wood is processed from a tree, each individual piece is different. It would be impossible to match from last year.

And the questions is -- did you not examine the product before installation??

Looks like the fault lies with the consumer. :p

#48355

I work for empire today in yhe NY warehouse. You as the customer should of looked at the flooring before it was installed. The installers just install period they don't pick colors; that's between you and the salesman.

I understand I did business with them one year ago and as I write they are in my bathroom installing ceramic tile for the third time. Refused to refund my money so I`ll have them here until they get it right. I paid a fortune for the floor and I demand a descent job!!!!

#43088

This is the worst company ever. They only work for their own benefit.

They do not pay the workers enough and charge customers over the roof prices.

Installers are there to do the laber work but get stuck doing what the office people supose to do and charge customers prices that are rediculious. :cry

I scheduled a free in home estimate with Empire Today. They gave me a 2 hour window for when someone will arrive.

10 minutes after my 2 hour window ended, I called. I spoke with a representative who got in contact with the technician who was supposed to come to my house. He told me that the technician said that I live in too bad a neighborhood for them to come to my house. No one ever called, they just decided that my husband's POLICE OFFICER salary cannot afford us a better home.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!

You got off easy. If anyone does not show for an appointment without a good excuse, there is something wrong with that provider and any subsequent transaction will try to make you regret ever calling them. Will they show again if not coming when you are most receptive to parting with your money?

#81787

My neighborhood is actually better than a lot of neighborhoods in the city. We've lived there for several years and have NEVER had a problem.

The worst thing that ever happened was some *** teenagers that stole our address sign. So, do they just not service the city of Philadelphia?

If they won't go to my neighborhood, they must not go to any neighborhoods in the city. Regardless, I will never do business with this company and I will discourage anyone I know from doing business with this company.

#81752

Listen, you... with the 1st comment, thanks to mexicans this country runs smoothly.

You're the one that doesn't know what the *** you're talking about, I'm sorry but don't take it out on them just because Billy Bob Joe in the local store can't seem to do anything right, or howbout Steve the salesrep who can't make a single measurement correctly. Get a reality check!

#57701

:grin Wow. Well, I lived in a *** neighborhood too. Empire has some female sales reps. They won't go into some neighborhoods, and I don't blame them. However, someone should have contacted you and rescheduled your appointment. I assume you called that wonderful 888 number when you did call to find out what was going on. Well, I'll tell you the same thing I've told others...

Wow. All this bashing... Do any of you know that Empire-Today has a 'call center' full of mexicans that don't know what they're talking about or how to direct a call? Well, that's pretty much what you'll get when you call that 888 number.

Call your local office. Not the freakin call center. You'd be shocked that the company isn't as bad as the call center would lead you to believe.

I'm sure that Empire Today doesn't care that your husband is a cop. and I'm sure they were not disprespecting him. Just the neighborhood which is not your fault. But you have to remember, there are people out there that will not go into an area like yours or mine. That's just how it is.
